Some names for G-d are unique to Him, but elohim is used to describe Him, false gods (plural), and human beings.

In Hebrew plurality is determined not by the ending of just one word (as in your "s" example for "gods"), but has to do with the noun, the verb and the adjective. Hebrew is actually a much more simple language than English. My son, who is learning Hebrew in school, makes this point often. The rules are more firm whereas English has rules such as "i before e except after c" -- English has many words that disprove this rule!

If one considers the study of Hebrew down the ages it is easy to see how the Chrstians misunderstood it. Most Jews were kicked out of Chrstian countries so there was no one to ask (this is very true of the King James translation) -- and so Chrstians had to learn both from apostate Jews of questionable knowledge and from each other. Very often Chrstian translators relied on the Greek translations rather than original Hebrew sources -- even as they realized the inaccuracy of them. . .

Already in the 4th and 5th centuries synagogues were burned by Chrstians. Number of Jews slain unknown.

In the middle of the fourth century the first synagogue was destroyed on command of bishop Innocentius of Dertona in Northern Italy. The first synagogue known to have been burned down was near the river Euphrat, on command of the bishop of Kallinikon in the year 388.
