My Orthodox friend says the date 517BCE in the below link is wrong.

The 2nd Temple did stand 420 years.
The article doesn't say 517BCE is when it was built. It says then was the beginning of the 2nd Commonwealth. I don't know what that points to.
Why does D.C. spend gazillions looking for intelligent life in space?
Because all the unintelligent positions have been taken. |

Rabbi Daniel,
Secular dating, based on archaeological evidence and astronomical records, of Churban Bayit Rishon is fairly solid at 586 BCE, which is about 70 years prior to this date. 586BCE converted to our calendar, would be 3175, 163/164 years before the traditional dating of 3338/3339. Understanding this discrepancy is key to understanding some of the statements in the sefer bearing your name. |

Professor,
The diyuk, per the Rambam, would be 3338 from the birth of Adam HaRishon, but 3339 from Briat HaOlam. |

Let's not forget that the Chrstian calendar has floated quite a bit in the last 2000 years. The current goyish calendar (the Georgian) dropped 10 days! It
didn't come into play until the 16th century CE. Therefore it is hard to correlate the goyish calendar with the Jewish calendar when one goes backwards
2000 or so years.
