The class will be taught in the Torah Chat starting at midnight (Eastern US time) on Saturday nights. Dr. Gerald Schroeder demonstrates the harmony between Bible and Science and shows how science reveals the ultimate truth behind one of the most obvious perceived contradictions between Torah and science -- the age of the universe -- six days or 15 billion years. Dr. Gerald Schroeder is a scientist with over thirty years of experience in research and teaching. He earned his Doctorate at MIT, prior to moving to Israel, where he joined the Weizmann Institute of Science and the Volcani Research Institute at Hebrew University. His formal theological training includes fifteen years of study under the late Rabbi Herman Pollack, Rabbi Chaim Brovender and Rabbi Noah Weinberg. Everyone is invited to join this series of lectures. The first session was held this past Saturday night; it was an "introductory" session. As far as I know, all sessions will be recorded. Here is the first session. What an awesome opportunity to listen to him lecture in person. The whole Virtual Yeshiva as a whole is an invaluable resource and learning opportunity. I can't say enough nice things about it.

I really enjoyed it. He has interesting understandings of some of the bibical accounts, which I haven't heard before. And of God too.

This may be an inappropriate place to discuss his book. If it is maybe we can do so privately. I was already familiar with "I Am that I Am' being a mistranslation, but it probably will come as a surprise to many. I read two of his past books and they didn't get very much into Jewish theology. He stuck to the science and a general discussion of the creation account. He seems to have a fair amount of Christian support for many of those books. I suspect he has a fair amount of Christian support really, especially those willing to consider evolution. Everyone is going to run out and get his book but they may be a little surprised with this one. He is discussing mistranslations which may not set well with all readers. And he actually explains some accounts from a very Jewish point of view. I found his discussion of 'mind, wisdom, energy...idea.... behind it all.. .very interesting. That may be far out for many. What did you think about his discussion concerning certain prophets having a close relationship with God (where they talked directly with Him) suddenly being down graded to having to interact with angels after doing something displeasing to God? I've never heard that before.
