Listen to me, O pursuers of righteousness, O seekers of HaShem:Look to the rock from which you were hewn, and at the hollow of the pit from which you were dug:2 look to Abraham your forefather and to Sarah who bore you, for when he was yet one alone did I summon him and bless him and make him many.3 For HaShem will comfort Zion. He will comfort all her ruins; He will make her wilderness like Eden and her wasteland like a garden of HaShem;joy and gladness will be found there, thanksgiving and the sound of music4 Pay attention to Me, My people; give ear to Me, My nation; for instruction will come forth from Meand My judgement will be a light for peoples, to whom I will give rest.5 My righteousness is near; My salvation has gone forth; My arms will chastise nations; the islands will put their hope in Me and will trust in My arm.6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth below ---for the heavens will dissipate like smoke, and the earth will wear out like a garment, and its inhabitants will die, as well;but My salvation will be forever and My righteousness will not be broken.7 Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, the nation with My Torah in its heart;Do not fear from the disparagement of man, and do not be broken by their insults;8 for like a garment, a moth will eat them, and like wool a worm will eat them;but My righteousness will be forever, and My salvation for all generations.

Proteus wrote:It has also lately been proposed that Christianity began not with Jesus, but as a pre-common era cult of "chrest," which was wholly pagan but became Judaized, over what is supposed to have been a long time. On the contrary, with or without Jesus, this Judaization must have been complete prior to Marcion; for it was his rejection of TaNaKh, the Bible of the movement at the time, that first sparked outrage.

Really, Sophie? I am very surprised.... If you “COULD care less” it means you do care some. I should have thought that you would not care AT ALL, in which case you ought to have said that you could NOT care less (it isn’t possible to care less than not at all).

Proteus wrote: context isn't necessarily everything, either. The repeated mention of that term lately brings back bad memories of an extended exchange in which I asked Sophiee about a particular verse in 2 Samuel, and she dealt with verses before, verses after, the chapter as a whole (absent the one verse) — anything and everything (the kitchen sink, the price of eggs in Denmark, etc.) but the one specific verse about which I asked.

So who are these peoples to whom God's judgment shall be light?Who are these peoples to whom God will give rest?Who populate the islands that will hope in God?Are these words not there? Is God saying something about them other than I've said?

Yeshayahu / Isaiah 51:12 "I, even I, am the One that comforts you: Who do you think you are, To be afraid of Man who will die, And of the son of Man, Who will be made as grass."

Kindly note that I have never made any reference (that I can recall) on this thread to an "immortal soul."
