Hi Sophie, :) , There is a very good reason for mentioning the 7 weeks and the 62 weeks -- the first 7 have to do with the first messiah. The second messiah who is cut off is at the end of the next 62 weeks.

The point was - what is the purpose of the 62 weeks? If the 62 weeks were irrelevant, then in verse 26, it would simply say "After 69 weeks the messiah will be cutoff....."

Then for 62 shavuim Jerusalem will be rebuilt. Get your act together in that time.

Oh, that's your rationale for the 62 weeks? 434 years to rebuild Jerusalem? No, I don't think so. It wasn't that big. The United States, for instance, is only 230 years old.
As Shmelke and Chaim have pointed out -- there is nothing about the Temple being rebuilt within 7 weeks (Daniel speaks of the word to rebuild going forth, not the timeframe it will take to rebuild).

Well, the temple is not mention in verse 25.
From the WORD to restore it (which Cyrus gave) until an anointed prince will be 7 shavuim. Cyrus was most certainly an anointed prince. J-sus was neither anointed nor a prince.

God can't anoint Jesus?

This isn't just a semantic argument of yours, Dougg -- that it is one timeframe not two. It is a linguistic one. You are completely ignoring the punctuation which clearly breaks it into two separate timeframes.

Actually, I am not.

Is there an end to war, Dougg? Is there universal peace?
Nope, not one false messiah -- two messiahs long gone.

We believe that there will not be true peace until Jesus returns. Sophiee, much of what you said is a rehash of issues that we have already batted back and forth. Until I see something new, I am moving out of this thread :) .

Peace,

Doug L.
