Hi Chaim, Daniel did mention Jeremiah and the calculation of years in 9:2 and this is why he prayed.

Sure Daniel was thinking about the prophecies in Jeremiah. But he did not mention either Jeremiah or Cyrus in his prayer. His prayer to the Lord began in 9:3.

9:3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
9:4 And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;

Daniel's prayer was not about Jeremiah or Cyrus, but the two issues of the restoration of Jerusalem and the sins of the Children of Israel.

He thought the 70 years were up but that God would renege on His promise.

I don't see anything in Daniel 9 indicating that Daniel was thinking about God reneging on His promise. Daniel's entire life, to me, was an incredible testimony of faith, and I find no man higher than Daniel in the Hebrew Scriptures.

And of course Cyrus is connected to the 1st of the two calculations of 70 years.

The angel did not respond regarding the 70 years, but the 70 weeks of years - because the focus is not upon Cyrus, but the restoration of Jerusalem and everlasting righteousness to deal with the Children of Israel
's shortcoming in keeping the covenant - the two things that Daniel prayed about - and as related to each other; by first the 49years to restore Jerusalem and second by the 432 years added to that. There is no breakdown, Chaim, in the Daniel 9:25-27 regarding the 70 years and the prophecy regading Cyrus.
