Hi Chaim, Isaiah 44:28 and Josephus in Antiquities (11.1.2 and 11.1.3 or 11.6 and 11.12) attest to the fact that Cyrus also called for the building of Jerusalem. This happened (538BCE) 7 weeks after the fall of Jerusalem in 586BCE.

44:26 That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:
44:27 That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:
44:28 That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.

but what we find regarding Cyrus's actual issuance of the degree and PUT in writing was related to the temple. Please note that the Lord stirred the spirit of Cyrus to do so...

36:22 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,
36:23 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the LORD God of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up.

Cyrus was not the only king, nor by himself carried out the
command of the Lord as related to the 490 year prophecy in Daniel 9, - which was not finished by Cyrus because the Lord also had to stir Artaxeres's heart to allow Nehemiah to rebuild the city and the wall.

You have nothing historically or biblically to justify your position about 49 years for the city to be built. Neither can you justify separating by over 2000 years the 69th from the 70th week just in order to fit Jesus in.

I have already stated my rationale, there is no reason to repeat it. We simply disagree.

Since you acknowledge 2 different 70 year periods forecast by Jeremiah, you should agree that Daniel's prayer happened in year 1 of Darius the Mede, at the time of Cyrus' edict. Again, a perfect match.

It is not a perfect match because the prophecy in Daniel 9 is a 490 year prophecy, not a 70 year prophecy. The 490 year prophecy entails more than rebuilding Jerusalem - but the coming of the messiah in order to bring in everlasting righteousness, 9:24 - which neither of Judaism's anointed one (again claiming two different anointed ones in the space of two adjoining sentences) accomplished.

If the 490 year prophecy of Daniel was to inform Daniel that Jerusalem, the wall and the city would be rebuilt; reimplicating Cyrus who Daniel was already aware of - and some unknown Sadducee 434 years later; then destroyed again at the end of 490 years, as how Judaism interpretes the passages in order to avoid Jesus as being the anointed one, the messiah - ending in NOTHING.... what kind of uplifting message is that to Daniel whom God greatly loved?

But if the message was that the messiah would arrive and that at the end of the 490 years would complete the troubles of the Children of Israel, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
Which view holds the most joy and hope - considering Daniel's PRAYER ?
