Dougg, Daniel doesn't say the first messiah will completely rebuild Jerusalem, but rather that "the word will go forth to rebuild" by the messiah.

As my post (above) shows over and over again, the prophets considered that this word went forth with Cyrus. Cyrus is mentioned in Isaiah 44-45, in 2Chronicles, and in Ezra 1. We are told in each that Cyrus is a messiah and that he will give the word to rebuild Jerusalem.

As for your comment:

Quote:
I don't read any such conditional statements regarding the Jews "cleaning up their act" concerning the 490 year prophecy as written in Daniel 9. 2500 years have passed, so the Jews have had plenty of time.

It is there -- if the Jews don't bring back justice (what you mistranslate as "everlasting righteousness"), etc. then at the end of 490 years the second messiah will be cut off. This happened.

The second Temple was destroyed.

So in the Jewish interpretation we see that the timing and the prophecy works -- in the Xian it does not.

Not only do you have to move the start point -- even when you do the timing is wrong for J-sus. You also have to suspend the prophecy at 69 weeks, waiting over 2000 years for the 70th week.

There is no such vision that the 70th week will be suspended. It, along with the 360 day year, the starting point of Artaxerxes still don't fit 490 years (as Chaim has pointed out to you) for one of Daniel's messiahs to have been J-sus.
