:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

Dougg,
color-coding verses according to your beliefs does nothing to show the truth of those beliefs. The fact that Daniel predicts the rebuilding of Jerusalem does not demonstrate that this is a 7 week process. Christians try to have their cake and eat it too: make 62 and 7 one time frame as far as messiah but create 2 time frames to mark the building of Jerusalem.

This reading is so awkward that Christians would laugh if Jews did anything similar.

Again, KJV says that from the "word" until messiah is 62+7 weeks. According to KJV the rebuilding could be anytime during the 69 weeks. The words simply do not say there is a 7 week building process.

Of course this prompts the question: why not just say messiah comes after 69 weeks? There is no good Christian answer to this question. It is obvious that the two frames must include 2 messiahs, as "messiah" is not only mentioned twice but mentioned WITH RESPECT TO each time frame.

This is a clear reading of the text. There is no mangling or distortion. If Christians could win with such a reading they would jump for it.
