Hi shmelke, Of course this prompts the question: why not just say messiah comes after 69 weeks? There is no good Christian answer to this question.

again, I have responded by saying that Daniel prayed about the restoration of Jerusalem. The division of the 7 weeks from the 62 weeks was for the purpose of answering that part of Daniel's prayer. Do you disagree that Daniel prayed about the restoration of Jerusalem?

It is obvious that the two frames must include 2 messiahs, as "messiah" is not only mentioned twice but mentioned WITH RESPECT TO each time frame. This is a clear reading of the text. There is no mangling or distortion.

The text does not say a "different", "second", or "another" messiah. If there are two messiahs using Judaism's view,
the first messiah arriving at the end of the 7 weeks, the 7 weeks not being for the rebuilding of Jerusalem, then exactly what, according to the text, occured at the end of that 62 weeks?

:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks:..............?????????????

In Judaism's interpretation, the verse is left unended. What is the purpose of the 62 weeks? Quoting your question to me (slightly modified :) ) - why not just say the second messiah comes after 69 weeks?

There is no reason for the 62 weeks unless the seven weeks are for the rebuilding of Jerusalem.
