joedavid,

You seem to be having difficulty getting over a mental hurdle where xianity being a large religion today means it warranted mention by name in the Tanach. Jews are told percisely their instructions, their covenant, and the perameters of that covenant, and that includes not worshiping the gods of the other nations. It doesn't matter how big or small a religion comes along, that is never an excuse to abandon their covenant. When were the Jews ever the largest nation in the world? They weren't then and they aren't now. It's not about size. Israel cannot go after the gods of other nations, because they are false. That never changes. It is eternal. This isn't something you have to necessarily apply to your own life, but you've got to understand that this is the covenant the Jews made with G-d.

Netanel
I asked for strength, and G-d gave difficulties to make me strong. I asked for wisdom, and G-d gave me problems to solve. I asked for prosperity, and G-d gave me brawn and brain to work. I asked for courage, and G-d gave me dangers to overcome. I asked for love, and G-d gave me troubled people to help. I asked for favors, and G-d gave me opportunities. I received nothing I wanted. I received everything I needed. My prayers were answered.
