Hi Sophiee, Dougg we have discussed this many, many, many times and I wonder why having been answered so often on this topic that you bring it up as if has never been asked and answered before?

It was even asked in "Ask the Rabbi" just in April of this year.

I don't recall any past discussion(s) of Rashi's commentary - whether he connected Daniel 7 with Daniel 2.

Okay, I went and looked at that April thread. There was nothing in that thread about the connection between Daniel 7 with Daniel 2. The discussion was mostly about why Daniel was not a prophet according to Judaism. And some discussion of Daniel 9. You made one post regarding Daniel 7, but did not comment relavent to Daniel 2.

In your post, dtd 4/14/07 8:03 pm, you wrote...

The fourth beast represented Rome which is still in power today (via Xianity).

Isn't that what I just said about the legs of iron in Daniel 2 being the Roman Empire, which became the Holy Roman empire, the feet of clay and iron, religion (specifically Roman Catholicism) and politics mixed together?

It is hard to believe that you, a Xian unlearned in Rashi or any other Jewish sage, are now saying that you think Rashi believed what YOU want to believe with absolutely nothing but your own imagination (and no knowledge or Rahsi or Judaism) to back up this claim!

Don't you find that arrogant not to mention insulting?

Huh? I am not completing with any Jew here about their knowledge of their own religion. My own knowledge of Rashi is miniscule. I said in my post "from what I read" concerning Rashi. I did a internet search on Rashi and by chance, at a Jewish site, read some information on Rashi's time and life, and parroted that information in my post. I
forget the site. That's all. I am not claiming a ph'd in Rashi. Sheesh, you are jumping to all kind of conclusions....

You mention "10 toes" and "10 kingdoms" as if there is a correlation -- but you ignore the "test for ten days" (chapter 1) and that Daniel was "ten times better" (chapter 1).

Well, I don't see any connection to the "test for ten days" and "ten times better" with the kingdom of God being established here on earth. That's what I am point to. Maybe I wasn't clear enough. Both Daniel 2 and Daniel 7 end the same way, with the kingdom of God being established here on earth. So given the ten toes and ten kings, and four kingdoms in both, there should be a connect. Round pegs, round holes...:)

In other words you try to stick together things that don't fit (square pegs into round holes) and ignore the ones that don't fit your hypothesis. This is not exactly a scientific method.

Oh jeepers, now I gotta be Stephen Hawkins.

Rashi says that . The angel explained to him that the ten horns in Daniel 7:7 are the ten kings who be emperors of Rome before Vespasian (the emperor who destroyed the second Temple). See Daniel 7:24

Do you have a link?

FYI, Daniel chapter 2 doesn't say "ten toes." It simply says "toes." It does speak of two kingdoms that will be divided into "toes" (countries). This is the destruction of Rome which gave birth the the Xian nations of Europe and now America.

I don't know where you are reading about two kingdoms divided into the toes.

Historically, I can see the transition of Rome to the Holy Roman Empire.

The two kingdoms: Roman and Chrstian will fall when the messiah comes.

Is that Rashi's view?

Ibn Ezra has a different perspective. He sees the third Kingdom as Rome (Rome and Chrstianity) and the fourth Kingdom as the Arabs (Islam).

I am not familar with Ibn Ezra. So I got some research to do. :)

Sincerely,

Doug L.
