It would be illegal to fire her for being ill...especially since a doctor told her NOT to work....but to answer your question, no....she wasn't and will not be fired.

Anyhow...The way it was explained to me by the administrator is he is the one who denies or approves claims and he said he would not deny one. He said we could file one for some kind of temporary unemployment insurance....

We're going to check out it and get more info tomorrow....

Does someone need to be fired to collect unemployment? I ask because I know of at least one, maybe two people who have quit jobs and got unemployment. One of which worked where my wife works....

The woman had to quit because of some kind of family emergency and received unemployment checks weekly...

yes, it is illegal to fire someone for being ill. that is why i asked when you said she could draw unemployment. one must be separated from employment through no fault of their own to drawn unemployment. i.e being fired without cause, laid off, position dissolved, company closes, etc. it usually does not involve illness of the employee or a family member. one cannot just quit a job and draw unemployment or imagine what the unemployment rates would be.

sophiee gave some great links to look into for short-term help. i would try those. disability benefits are not easy to get since one must prove that the person is truly disabled and is unable to work and will not be able to work in the future. unless your state has some type of short-term benefits that she can tap into.
