I am seeking to gain an understanding of the word as it would have been understood, say, by Hillel. Or, say, by Noah.

The never-ending assumption of Christian assumptions just boggles my mind. I cannot recall the last time I saw the Name and supposed it referred to Jesus. Age 12? Age 10? That was forty years ago.

If the name Jesus isnt there, its not there. In TaNaKh, the four-letter Name refers to HaShem. When Christian texts quote TaNaKh, if the word quoted is the Name, it still refers to HaShem. But I would prefer to keep this thread free of references to Christianity.

Going through the verses one by one does not strike me as a good idea. There are too many. Instead, I think it will be better to deal with them in categories or groups. The term appears to be used in several senses:
(1) National salvation ( meaning, what?)
(2) Personal salvation from personal enemies
(3) Personal salvation from calamities
(4) Some kind of eschatological, cosmological salvation (?) (Who knows?)

I dont want to rely on any translation here.

Give me a few days with this. Since re-formatting my hard drive has gone to the back burner, I may as well download the tools I have and come back with a corrected set of cites. If its not too much trouble, I will also provide the exact Hebrew of each verse as images, not text, so that nobody has to change their Encoding to read it.
