Harry, how does one conclude that "no one needs G-d" from the fact that you don't need "saving"?

Let me see if I can explain the Xian concept (and correct me if I'm wrong). Sin is external to you. The devil makes sin, and you have no control over it. To save you from this thing you can't control you need G-d.

To the Jewish mind this is like saying:

1. G-d didn't do a very good job in creating man, making him totally incapable of taking care of himself (spiritually).

2. G-d isn't in control, there is this "devil" (evil, sin -- fill in the blank if you don't like the word "devil") that does terrible things that G-d wishes he wouldn't do.

3. Some day G-d will clean up this mess He either created or that He doesn't control (e.g., the devil, evil ,etc.).

Do I have that right?

Now you asked about the Jewish concept of "salvation" since the word is used in Torah (not often, about 5 or 6 times). Primarily it speaks of G-d's rescue of us physically. Not spiritually, not from sin -- but in Exodus he "yesha" (rescues) us from the Egyptians. (Exodus 14:13).

As we've said before our immortal souls don't need "saving" by some external source. We are here for two purposes: one to perfect the world (and by doing so perfecting ourselves).

The whole world was created for this purpose. Man's education spiritually.

We are like children (spiritually). We must learn and grow. Some of us are geniuses, some of us a bit slow -- but G-d expects us to do our best with what He has given us.

Do we need G-d? Absolutely! He not only created us, but He did so not to save us like we would save a drowning rat, but to teach us and mature us.

Again, think of the situation as that of a parent and child. When you have a child that child is helpless. You must feed it, clothe it, change its dirty diapers. But over time it grows, it learns. One day you hope that child is a well balanced adult who in turn can help others.

G-d had many creations prior to man. Many worshipped Him. But they could not grow -- they just "are" -- the same from one day to the next. Only man can learn and grown and come to understand, even 1/1000th of a percent, how to choose. As G-d chose us.
