The name sinai is related to the word for "hatred" in aramaic. So the rabbis make a drash that when Israel accepted the Torah, the nations began to hate her.
My rabbi (jokingly) once said that it was no coincidence that the English word for the country "Russia" is related to the Hebrew word for "wicked person."
