I'd like to know why you say G-d or L-ord instead of God or Lord?

The 3rd Commandment prohibits a Jew from saying the Creator's name in vain, so that when we refer to Him in circumstances other than during worship service and study of the Hebrew Bible, we use pseudonyms.

Some people have adopted this custom also with respect to writing out titles of the Creator in languages other than Hebrew, although this is not necessarily observed universally. Those who follow this custom will, therefore, omit one letter, e.g., G-d, L-rd, or, at times substitute a letter, e.g., Elokim ("k" replaces "h").
