Doug -

What do you think about the six pointed star symbol, commonly called the star of david in our day and age, being historically an idol - Chiun - made by the Children of Israel, in the worship of some say Saturn when they were in the desert? I am not saying that modern day Jews, intentionally or unitentionally, are worshipping an idol, btw. I am just investigating the symbol itself.

Amos 5:26-27 But ye have born the tabernacle of your Moloch, and Chiun your images, the STAR OF YOUR GOD, which ye made to yourselves. Therefore, will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the Lord...

It would seem to me that if - given the universally recognized association of the two triangle star to the state of Israel and Jews in general - if the six pointed star was intended to be a representative symbol of Israel endorsed by God - that there should be some sort of Divine instruction to do so. But there isn't, to my knowledge.

We have here a problem of translation and nomenclature! Here is a better translation of the passage:

Amos 5:26-27 - (26) And you shall carry Siccuth your king and Chiun your images, Kochav your god, which you have made for yourselves. (27) And I will exile you beyond Damascus, said He Whose Name is the L-rd G-d of Hosts.

As you can see, there are three idols mentioned here, Siccuth, Chiun, and Kochav. Now, granted that - kochav is also the Hebrew word for a star, but it is not the Hebrew word used when referring to the Star of David - - magen-david, which literally means Shiled of David. Consequently, your conclusion is mistaken.
