I was just passing through and I will put in my "thoughts" on the subject...."Star" in ancient hebrew slang was connected to "a prophet" in that the prophet was higher up then others likened to "symbolically" or poetically like a star that shines above the heavens(or the regular guy) so Star of David could mean in a symbolic sense a prophet that will come out of or from David....Now then as others have pointed out some see the "star" of David as a symbol of Moloch and really I am not here to argue pro or con for this view what I will say regarding this subject is that the star of David as it is symbolized is a double Phalynx which is a very powerfull military formation that can be used in many ways to defeat one's enemies....It also is a great way to protect one's women and children by placing them in the middle of the formation thus not allowing one's enemies to be able to attack the weak unprepared as they are protected on all sides....Remember we are told that Amalek always attacked the stragglers and the weak thus this "Star of David" was our answer to protect the weak or vulnerable and one can look at this in a deeper sense as this "Symbol" has become our answer(Judiasm) to the attack of Amalek in it's many quizes including for example christian missionaries(Wink) attacking our weak and either killing them spiritually or physically.... If you doubt me draw the star of David and try and find a weak point or vulnerable area in it's design you will see what I mean by how it can defeat it's enemies no matter which place they attack as the two lines always face the enemy that is attacking and the points offer the smallest area that an enemy can attack at one time...Interestingly it is the one "symbol" that we Jews accept universally and it is the one even the most non affiliated wears around his neck to protect him and remind him or her of where they are from and where they are going no matter what the pressures are to conform and leave the safe place of protection in the middle of it....Shimon
