Dougg,

Start researching the apostolic fathers, who were disciples of the original apostles and lived during the latter part of the 1st century and early 2nd century. Google Polycarp, Justin Martyr, Clement, Ignatius, etc....who are all saints of the Cathoic church and whose views on Jesus and God do not reflect a Trinitarian viewpoint at all. Polycarp, for example was a direct disciple of John the Evangelist.

You'll find that none of the church fathers, leaders, popes, etc.., from the times closest to the characters in the NT had Trinitarian views. Their teachings still exist to this day, in contrast to nothing existing from "Trinitarian" christians of the same period. Trinitarian christians simply did not exist back then. Neither did Mormons, J-Witnesses, or Bahai.
