Because most xians disdain the NWT as being non-xian I thought I would point out just a few other translations that agree, (based on the greek text) that the subject
Of John 1:1 was not the same as G-d.

The New Testament, in An Improved Version, - the word was a god 1808
The Emphatic Diaglott (Greek interlinear) - a god was the Word 1864 Benjamin Wilson.
Das Evangelium nach Johannes - godlike sort was the Logos 1978 Johannes Schneider (original in German)

Dictionary of the Bible; Jn 1:1 should rigorously be translated the word was with the God [= the Father], and the word was a divine being. - (Brackets are his) (New York, 1965), p. 317. -John J. McKenzie.
The following support Mckenzies view

James Moffat NT - the Word was divine 1913 James Moffatt
Goodspeed NT - the Word was divine 1923 E.J. Goodspeed
The Bible-An American translation the Word was divine 1935 E.J. Goodspeed & J.M.P. Smith

The above seven xian Greek scholars disagree with the common explanation of John 1:1. Comments by them concerning the greek text are in line with what Sophiee and Malachi posted concerning the definite article.
