Yeah, it's a pretty convicting message, isn't it? Some have gone so far as to call it anti-Semitic.
Unfortunately, according to my understanding, God has never offered "alternative paths" to Him. There has never been an "option" to following His commandments.
And so I completely believe that Jesus made this statement. It is fully in line with the character of the living God.
In any case, the part of all the gospels that contains the whole matter of our consideration is the Resurrection of Jesus. If that occurred, it validates all the rest of what He said. And even if you confine yourself to the synoptic gospels, you come face to face with the Son of God, the Messiah of Israel.
