Chaim said "If it was proven to you beyond a doubt that Jews never worshipped anything like a Trinity before Jesus' time, therefore proving the Trinity is a god Jews' fathers never knew, would that end your belief in Jesus - or would it shift your christian beliefs so that you'd believe more like a Unitarian? "

As a former xtian I'll give my view. For most of my xtian life I believed in the trinity. I admit I struggled with fitting the concept of a triune god into many passages, even as simple as Rev 1:1. But it was that 'popular' belief so I just 'believed' like every one else.

When I started questioning the trinity some time back I went at researching the subject with fervor. At the point of rejecting this fallacy my world was rocked to the core. When I told people I was called a heretic and I was also informed I was no longer welcome at the church I was attending (such xtian love!). They feared I would spread my 'heresy'.

At that point I would have not called myself a unitarian but I was unable to figure out what exactly Jsus was. Was he just a man? Hebrews 2:17 is a pretty strong passage that leads to this because how could be Jsus be like his brothers in every way if he (1) was a god or angel (2) existed for all eternity with his father? I know no other people like that do you?

Eventually I did accept the basic tenets of biblical unitarianism: that Jsus was a man and that he did not come into existence until his birth.

So what led me to shed myself of xtianity altogether? Well once you start seeking the truth more and more is shown to you. It was much easier to accept that Jsus was not the end times messiah (or likely any kind of messiah) than it was to reject the trinity. Besides most people called me a lost heretic anyway since I did not believe in the trinity so if I was 'lost' why would I need xtianity at all? That's what led me to study the Tanakh and find the truth of the whole matter.

Seriously, the way that the 'new testament' portrays Judaism is so far off from the truth that I can see why xtians have such a skewed view. Most xtians live in guilt but I would wager that most Jewish people do not. The beauty of free will is expressed throughout the Jewish bible. And there is no longer the fear of 'burning in hell'.
