Towshab that was a very interesting post. My impression of many (not all) Xians is that they talk a lot about "love" but mostly are afraid. . .

Afraid of burning in hell. . .

Afraid of not being part of those they love in their community. . .

Afraid of being different. . .

Perhaps this is why so many Jews have been involved in civil rights for African Americans. When a black person walks in a room he is immediately judged (unfortunately we aren't quite where MLK envisioned us all being judged by character). A Jew may "look Jewish" or not but in the end the veneer of not belonging can still result in being ostracizes and hated just for being different. . .

Fear.

It always makes me think of the Rogers and Hammerstein song from South Pacific which was very brave in its day (the late 1940s):

You've got to be taught
to be afraid
of people whose eyes
are oddly made
and people whose skin
is a different shade
you've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught
before it's too late. . .
before you are six
or seven
or eight
to hate all the people your relatives hate
You've got to be carefully taught. . .

You've got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.

Fear.

Yet we all come from two people: Adam and Chava (Eve). Our sages teach that this is so no one would claim superiority by birth.

It hasn't worked. . .has it?
