You were misinformed. In the case of Yitz'hak, both the Talmud (K'tubbot, folio 60a) and the Midrash (B'réshιt Rabbah 53:10) say that a baby is weaned at 24 months, and in his comment to Shmuel Alef 1:22, Rashi notes that a baby is weaned at 22 months (but other versions of his commentary say "24 months").
