Thomas,
Forget logic for now (as arguing the point would be a waste of time anyway) and let's just stick to Tanakh, as you say. Do you believe God took the form of 1 or 3 angels in Genesis 18 despite what Josephus and Philo of the 1st century wrote (see my quotes 4 posts above this one) on this episode?

And I don't understand your point about the witness of Josephus and Tacitus, who both claimed Jews were unanimous and without disagreement in the 1st century as to God and His nature being absolutely one, as Jews see God now. Are you saying that if there was different belief, it would have been stamped out? How do you know there was any differing belief at all?

Do you have any evidence that any Jew of the 1st century clearly taught that God was 3-in-1? If James and Peter did so, why were they tolerated for about 30-40 years after Jesus? Seems these heretics would've been stoned 1st chance the Jews got, if they had the chance, according to you. Josephus refutes your claim, as he wrote that James' death was an immoral travesty. This is the same Josephus who wrote about the Jews of his day having only one kosher opinion about God. Do you think Josephus was confused? According to your last response, Josephus wrote about traditional Jews being outraged by the tragic death of a heretic (James) teaching about trinities to fellow Jews who were all unified in their belief about the absolute unity of God. Seems fairly obvious that Josephus saw James as a fellow Jew who had the same kosher opinion about God that all other Jews had.

Please explain.
