She may not be able to answer but as a former Xian I can. You raise a lot of good questions and the GT gives examples of those who were not considered hypocrites by GT standards. In Luke 1 with the priest Zechariah and Elizabeth his wife. In Chapter 2 of Luke there is Simeon who was devout and righteous. This is all that is said of him but he was at the Temple in Jerusalem and then there is Anna the prophetess in the same chapter. In John 3 there is the Pharisee Nicodemus. Then there is Act 6:7 7 So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of "priests" became obedient to the faith. Perhaps, and this is a guess on my part, that according to the GT the majority of the teachers of the Law and Pharisees were the villains of the story but a small handful of Jews (the good guys and gals) were righteous because they either knew who Jsus was or that they followed him later on. We see the villainous role of the "Jews" in the Gospels, in Acts, the writings of Paul who claimed that observant Jews were blind and chased him around a lot wanting to kill him, and right into the Book of Revelation. What I get from reading the GT is that the majority of Jews are bad (better not listen to them because they are blind teachers) but there exist a small number who become Xians. Is there proof outside of the GT that there were villainous Jews in authority? I don't know about the secular history of that time period. Xian use the GT as the history book and some will look into Josephus. That's the best answer I can give.
