Good morning Thomas,

I will address Gensis 12:10 since Sophiee already addressed Genesis 1 and 2.

Quote:
Genesis 12:10 says that Abraham went down to Egypt to sojourn there, but in the next verse, we find Abraham approaching Egypt.

Genesis 12:10 actually says that Abraham descended to/towards Egypt [ ].

It is not a case of the text saying "Abraham arrived/was in Egypt...", and then going back and recounting the process leading up to that point. It is not a case of a theme being announced in "global form" and then the details being filled in.

It is a chronological continuation of the previous verses, and proceeds chronologically to the next verses. Chapter 18 is also not a case of the text announcing a theme in "global form" and then going back and filling in the details.

The events in Chapter 18 chronologically proceed the events of Chapter 17, where G-d tells Abraham that Sarah will bear Isaac this time next year. Thus it doesn't say "The L-rd appeared to Abraham", but says "The L-rd appeared to him". Likewise, verse 2 chronologically proceeds verse 1. Just as the L-rd "appeared" to Abraham prior to the appearance of the men/angels, the Abraham was still "standing before the L-rd" after the men had left.

Genesis 18:22
22. And the men turned from there and went to Sodom, and Abraham was still standing before the Lord.

and finally

Genesis 18:33
33. And the Lord departed when He finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.
I asked for strength, and G-d gave difficulties to make me strong. I asked for wisdom, and G-d gave me problems to solve. I asked for prosperity, and G-d gave me brawn and brain to work. I asked for courage, and G-d gave me dangers to overcome. I asked for love, and G-d gave me troubled people to help. I asked for favors, and G-d gave me opportunities. I received nothing I wanted. I received everything I needed. My prayers were answered.
