Thomas, I believe for us Jews your comments are the "core"... What you refer to as "fluff", is the point. We couldn't care less about xians interpretation about the three kings, it's only one of many of the contradictions. But what makes it more than fluff is the admittal that the supposed word of G-d had not only been altered, but made up completely. You can argue all you want whether it's in the GT or not. The fact that the Archbishop even addressed it is significant enough to show one of many misinterpretations between the various sects of xianity, much less than by the Jews. Bottom line is if it didn't happen, how can we believe any of it happened. In light of G-d's direct words in Deut. 13:1-7, I think the answer is very clear.
