Noachide Joe, I read some of the Harry Potter books with my Korean English students, not because I like them, but because it was a good exercise for them since they had read them in Korean and already had copies in English. They are NOT internally consistent, and teach some pretty bad things.

How are they NOT internally consistent? There aren't any contradictions that are noteworthy, within the STORIES that they tell. True or not true, they are internally consistent. As far as "teaching" bad things, I only partially agree with you...NOVELS really shouldn't be used as a source of knowledge and/or wisdom. Rather, they should be used as allegorical examinations of society...or, more usefully, purely for enjoyment. Fiction is not reality and should not be treated as such.

Quote:
Being internally consistent is not a proof of divine origin,...

Absolutely correct. It simply means that there are no contradictions within the "work".

but being inconsistent is indeed a proof of non-divine origin.

Possibly. Internal inconsistency seems to indicate a "work" that has not been well thought out or is wholly, or even partially, false. So, in this regard, a lack of consistency can be seen as "proof" of non-divine origins.

Establishing internal consistency is the basic first step to admitting the NT as a candidate for an inspired book, and that, of course, is under attack in this forum.

Of course it's "under attack"...it isn't internally consistent, yet xians continue to ignore this even when shown the contradictions. An example, off the top of my head, is the conflict between the two lineages of Jsus. Another example is the fact that , although we are taught that G-d abhors human sacrifice, we are expected to accept that this very thing is that which is supposed to "save" us. Unfortunately for believers in the "infallibility" of the NT, there are many more such examples.
