2 Chronicles 24
20. And the spirit of God enveloped Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, and he stood above the people and said to them, "So said God: Why do you transgress the commandments of the Lord? You will not succeed because you have forsaken the Lord, and He has forsaken you."
21. And they conspired against him and stoned him by the king's command, in the forecourt of the House of the Lord. (JPT)

Matthew 23
35.That upon YOU may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the Sanctuary and the altar.
36.Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

You CANNOT CONCLUDE that Jesus was referring to 2Ch.24:21 simply because that's the only Zechariah's murder recorded in the tanach.
According to Matt.23:35 Zechariah ben Berechiah was murdered between the Sanctuary and the altar.
According to 2Ch.24:21 Zechariah ben Yehoiada was STONED to death in the forecourt of the House of the Lord.
The similarity in both cases (other than their names) is that they were both murdered in the temple. Since you don't know how Zechariah ben Berechiah died you simply can't conclude Jesus was talking about 2Chr.24:21.

You CANNOT CONCLUDE Jesus was blaming the death of Abel on the Jews either. The texts of Matt.24:36 clearly show that Jesus said the blood of all the righteous on earth will be on "THIS GENERATION". The meaning of "THIS GENERATION" has been discussed here before.
Let the OBJECTIVE reader conclude.
