Weboh, you are falling into the classic trap of trying to “interpret” a translation. Remember that translations can NEVER be precise and that I only wrote “or controls” in brackets. The Hebrew phrase éshĕt ba'alat ov literally means “a woman [who is] the master/user of an Ov”, but even that is misleading and open to misinterpretation because of the wide range of ways in which the word ba'al (and its feminine equivalent ba'alah) can be used. Furthermore, an ov was not some kind of “spirit”, but involved the practitioner using a kind of ventriloquism to create the illusion of a voice coming from his/her armpit.

Professor, may we please see some documentation of this?  I have studied many areas of both "Real Divination" and Mentalism (as in stage magic), and have never come across this "technique".  I guess Xians would automatically interpret the so-called "Witch of Endor" from the Medieval witch trial interpretation, but that is plain Xian ignorance.  Tell me; I am all ears.

Also, I am really skeptical, Sophiee, that the Hebrew Scriptures forbid any form of Divination whatsoever.  Yes, I am familiar with the prohibitions against making one's children "walk across the fire", but I think that is just based on avoidance of Gentile practices in nearby tribes.  This is just my opinion.  I am not trying to teach Judiasm.
