Harry, interesting that you keep ignoring everything written about Chrest and Chrestians and keep harping back to 1 Clement as if it were THE magical talisman. Although people like to say this is a very early writing no one knows for sure who wrote it or when (yet again!). The earliest copy dates to about a thousand years ago. There are mentions of the document earlier, but what does that really prove? There are those who doubt the authenticity of 1 Clement let alone who might have written it (anonymous again!) and when (yet again). . .

Why question the authenticity of 1 Clement? Well, for one the author speaks as if Temple sacrifices were on going and we know the Temple was destroyed in 70 CE -- YET the author also speaks of deaths of both Peter and Paul -- which post dated the Temple's destruction by quite some time. So is this some fictional work authored at some time unknown by someone not familiar with chronology?

Yep.

So you are stuck with which came first -- Acts or 1 Clement? Does 1 Clement really prove anything?

Not so I can see. . .

Keep in mind, Harry, that I have no "stake" in this game. I like researching history to try to ferret out fact from fiction. Odds are we can never do that for certain -- but you are placing your "faith" on a house of cards that can neither be proven or disproved.
