It is a guess, but it might be that the Christian noticed that G-d created אתו (him) and אתם (them), both referring to האדם in Bereshit 1:27. Since האדם was created in G-d's image, the Christian concluded that G-d had to be both "he", "them" as well as "male" and "female".
I don't think one has to be very bright to see the weakness of this train of thought.
Nor the T'NaCh, nor the Christian Scriptures, nor the Church fathers give any indication that mashiach should metaphorically be considered a female. There's a complete lack of evidence. And what can be claimed without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.
