It has everything to do with the discussion. It is completely logical and consistent to say that you reject the Torah and that it is not the basis of your faith. Fine. You have very good company in the billions of Buddhists and Hindus in the world.

However, the vast majority of Christians claim to base their faith on the Torah/Hebrew Scriptures and then want to convince Jews of the validity and the superiority of their faith through claims of miracles. That is highly irrational, not intellectually honest, not consistent and causes cognitive dissonance.
