Or to put it another way Worship born of ecstasy is selfish and not wanted by G-d

To have an intimate and deep relationship with G-d we must connect with Him as He wants -- not follow our own selfish desires.   It is well and good to tell someone you "love them" (G-d or a spouse) but if one never SHOWS that love by doing little things for that entity known to please that entity -- where is the love?

Just imagine a husband bringing his wife home a nice set of men's golf clubs for their anniversary (when the wife can't stand golf).   Yet people who profess to love G-d while doing the exact opposite of what He clearly says He wants from us is considered not only permissible but preferred by G-d?  Perhaps in Bizarro Universe, but not on planet Earth.
