Proteus:

You have a good point. The majority of prophets repeatedly rebuked the Jewish for the way they were treating each other: robbery, theft, adultery, sexual perversion, murder, extortion, fraud, unfair business practices, failing to provide for and substantially include the poor, the downtrodden, the weak, and the oppressed, bribery, failing to administer true justice, causing embarrassment to others, haughtiness . . .

The idolatry was a major theme; yet, it was not the overriding factor in the destruction of the First Temple and exile. As our Sages of blessed memory explained, the Babylonian Exile was the consequence of murder, sexual immorality and idolatry.

However, I fail to see how the reasons for the destruction of the First Temple must necessarily have been the same factors for the destruction of the Second Temple. There simply is no evidence of such in the Scriptures, it is not dictated by logic and there is no tradition supporting the idea. Therefore, it is wild speculation.
