I agree - as do all liberal Christians who've studied it at all - that the Petrine epistles don't come from the historical Peter. Um, at least I think that is what I think.

The above link that I gave really has a lot of information that I also studied through Berean school of the Bible. {before I dropped out}

This is about the gentleman who wrote the information:
www.bible-researcher.com/biog.html

Note his background and note what he says about himself.

I think many Christians {liberal, fundamental, conservative, or whatever} are not aware of the history behind how the canon came about.
Unless one under goes this type of study. But, it is encourage for the regular Joe Shmoe? Not really. Could it be beneficial to a Christians faith? I think so.
Just as historical looks at Judaism and Torah benefits many Jews.

How many Christians are aware of which "books" of the Christian text were not accepted right away?
BTW, these "books" are listed here under Minor disagreements in earliest days.

The majority of Christians who come here are engage in study of Christian theology under Apologetics.
But, there are other ways to study Christian theology, like Exegisis. What I am refering to is Historical Theology, the study of Christianity as it has developed through time and how it is developing now. I do not see how this type of study would make a Christian liberal.
