Again, Dougg misses the point. the "generation" is not a "generation" as we know it. According to the pronouncement by G-d no MAN of the CENSUS generation would survive. If one would have actually read the accounts in numbers and later deuteronomy, he/she wouldn't have to assume a biological generation, but rather a census generation, which comprised of those 20 to 60. THAT is what is considered a generation. with that being said, the Text speaks that only MEN were counted. so since the generation is actually 40 year span, what else needs to be said. One's father and grandfather were counted as one CENSUS generation. This had been explained.
