Thomas, there is no contradiction between from what Dan and i said and the 613 mitzvot.

Quote:
Exodus 22:15 If a man seduces a virgin who is not betrothed, he must pay a dowry and must marry her. 22:16 If her father refuses to allow him to marry her, then he must pay [the father] the usual dowry money for virgins.

If a man has sex with a virgin he must pay her dowry and must marry her (or offer to marry her -- she can refuse him -- see Kethuvoth 39b; Kiddushin 46a) and:

Quote:
Genesis 24:58 They summoned Rebecca and said to her, 'Do you want to go with this man?' 'I will go,' she replied.

The mitzvot say that there shall be no sexually promiscuous women (in Israel); that is, that there shall be no intercourse with a woman, without previous marriage with a deed of marriage and formal declaration of marriage (Deuteronomy 23:18) .

All of this is right in line with what we said.

In other words: you can't have casual sex with a virgin (or a widow). If a man has sex with a woman he must intend to marry her or take her as a concubine. She may refuse him, but he is still responsible for a dowry if she was a virgin.

To take a wife by kiddushin, the sacrament of marriage is found in Deuteronomy 24:1.

Still not quite sure of how you think there is a discrepency between Torah (the 613 mitzvot) and Rambam (or Dan or me for that matter).

Feel free to explain further how you think that we have added to or subtracted from Torah. We are more than happy to discuss this because this is the very core of Judaism and we do neither.
