Regardless, unless you demand accuracy and expose mistakes, these problems will persist. Exposing them on forums isn't really the answer though. As you point out, no one believes you, especially if they don't like it. Plus everyone seems to be an expert on the internet. You don't know who to believe anymore. There needs to be an international committee of Hebrew scholars that force bibles using the Hebrew text to conform to the most accurate translation. Either you are right or wrong here, but if you are right, this committee should pull all bibles off the shelves and they should be corrected. I don't see it much differently than keeping military specifications or industry specifications current and free from error. ha ha. Now that would be fun to watch..

It's a catch 22. The mistranslations upset you, yet you aren't suppose to study to any great extent with non-Jews. Oh well

Even Chabad.org in the Text of Megillah translates it as both fasting. I'd give a link, but it will probably be deleted. Everyone can do their own search, though, and should.

There are legitimate things to criticize Christians about, but when you resort to things like this you begin to lose credibility, imo.

The Prof may be right. Probably is as smart as he is. But it's plainly not a Christian conspiracy.

Now see, if we had that international committee I'm pulling for, he could submit his challenge to the translation and have it changed so it is very clear in the only allowable translation (singular). Or better yet, he could lead the committee.

Not everyone is going to learn Hebrew. Translations exist and you can't get rid of them.

Call it a crazy idea. Crosswalk lists about 30 different translations and even Jewish bibles differ in their translations. I don't know how many Jewish translations there are. Which one is the 'decent' translation? Even the Jewish ones disagree with each other on some things, such as the subject verse being discussed here.

I'd like to see one that is produced by an internationally accepted/recognized committee of Hebrew scholars who continually revise one translation (without any commentary) when errors are discovered and corrected. Eventually it would be viewed as the most 'correct' translation and all the others would die a slow death because they wouldn't be viewed as legitimate. It would serve to clear up a lot of confusion I think. It would correct many of the problems that are brought up on this forum about Christian mistranslations concerning the Hebrew scripture. You would still have commentary produced that would differ, but it would have to be working from the same exact translation. Sure, I know its not going to happen. It's just wishful thinking on my part. If I ever win 300 million in the lottery I'll definitely pursue this though.

So tell me, why aren't you insulting the Jews who translated the verse this way

"Go, assemble all the Jews who are present in Shushan and fast on my behalf, and neither eat nor drink for three days, day and night; also I and my maidens will fast in a like manner; then I will go to the king contrary to the law, and if I perish, I perish."

and this way

16 "Go and gather all the Jews who are in Shushan and fast for my sake, do not eat and do not drink for three days, night and day. My maids and I shall also fast in the same way. Then I shall go to the king, though it is unlawful, and if I perish, I perish."

Btw, I ran a poll on another forum and everyone interpreted "I, with my maids' will fast also" to mean "I, including my maids, will fast".

The standard dictionary meaning of 'with' is "Inclusive of; including".

I'm letting it drop. If you wish to use this as something to insult Christians about so be it. It's ridiculous and this is my last post on the subject.
