It is worth noted that community 'considered itself Jewish'. That may be different that the author. It is possible that the original author considered himself Jewish but his later community involved in the book as we read it did not. Alan Culpepper, a noted Johannine scholar stated that the "'intra-Jewish' debate positions do not recognize the extent of the breach with Judaism that is already reflected in John. And John Gager stated that in the Gospel of John those 'within the total framework of the Gospel this [belief in J*] surely means that such individuals cease thereby to be Jews'.

It appears that the Johannine Community and its Gospel rejecting the Torah basis of Judaism, Judaism's strict monotheism and their replacement theology with J* as the linchpin of their religion they can no longer be called a Jewish sectarian group.

We read that 'the Jews, who had already agreed to ban from the synagogue anyone who should acknowledge J* as the J*' (9:22).
What did that mean - 'acknowledging J*'?

Real xians care little about Jews on a personal level, but care a lot for Jews on a spiritual level. Real xians will go to any length to convert a damned or hellbound Jew regardless of the fact that doing so means the murder of that Jewish convert to xianity...
Real xians have a love-hate relationship toward the Jews. While believing the original Hebrew Scriptures to be the infallible and inspired word of HaShem (despite the fact that xian interpretations are not accurate according to true, biblical Hebrew), they also believe the xian Bible to be equally, though supersedingly, inspired. Real xians believe the anti-Semitism in the xian Bible to be true. Furthermore, real xians believe that Jews and non-Jews should become one people; one community of faith. Real xians believe they have replaced the Jews as the chosen people.
Real xians believe the Torah is null: "J* is the mediator of a new covenant that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, now that he has died to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant" (Hebrews 9:15). I've actually seen and discussed this asinine dogma with several "real xians" and they use their own "scripture" as support for this stupidity....
Real xians, as stated above, will go to any lengths to convert a Jew. A converted Jew is awarded special significance; he or she is the fulfillment of the ultimate xian mitzvah. Stupid as this may be, many fundamentalist xian leaders express contrition for the historical abuses against the Jews, their baseline objective has not shifted: Bring the Jews to faith in J* by any means possible....
Today's Jews are a spiritual anachronism for real xians. The fundamentalist theo-political agenda has no room for pluralism or tolerant co-existence with people of divergent views. You are in or out, saved or lost, redeemed or damned. All non-xians are in darkness and need a savior. All non-xians must hear the message of salvation. Belief in that imperative keeps the money flowing to fulfill the Great Commission to reach all the world.
How is this new goal to convert Jews by introducing "Messianic Shuls" any different than the evils done 50, 500, or 1,000 years ago? The answer: There is no difference! Perhaps the real xians could love Jews a little less and justice Jews a little more....

Stupid as this may be, many fundamentalist xian leaders express contrition for the historical abuses against the Jews, their baseline objective has not shifted: Bring the Jews to faith in J* by any means possible....
Today's Jews are a spiritual anachronism for real xians. The fundamentalist theo-political agenda has no room for pluralism or tolerant co-existence with people of divergent views. You are in or out, saved or lost, redeemed or damned. All non-xians are in darkness and need a savior. All non-xians must hear the message of salvation. Belief in that imperative keeps the money flowing to fulfill the Great Commission to reach all the world.
How is this new goal to convert Jews by introducing "Messianic Shuls" any different than the evils done 50, 500, or 1,000 years ago? The answer: There is no difference! Perhaps the real xians could love Jews a little less and justice Jews a little more....
We not only find anti-Semitism in the gospels but in Paul's writing especially within these verses below:

J* was dead when Paul began his missionizing....It was Paul who inspired the gospel writers.

When I read this one (John 7:1) I am reminded of a friend I once had who would cross the street if a black man was coming towards him. I think this now says it all...xianity is inherently anti-Semitic especially after reading not only Paul's writings but reading J* own words and the recorded account of those words in the GT.
