Ahhh...being bombarded with missionaries |

Right forum? If you've read my other notes you have background on me. Rabbi Daniel, like you said in your explanation to your "pita fanatic"
comment - it's humorous and not humorous at the same time; so it is with my stark raving mad evangelist comment. Ideas for the well meaning friends and
family that are perplexed by my changes? None are being accusatory but are bringing articles, questions, verses... that frankly I am not even wanting to look
at at this point. Down the road maybe, but not now when I am trying to regroup and reform my beliefs. I am swamped and feeling a bit information overwhelmed
between them and my own questions. I think right now my own search is plenty. But to brush them totally off?.....especially family. Ideas?

The word גּוֹי goy means "a nation" and גּוֹיִם goyim is its plural, "nations". Y'shayahu here - and Yirm'yahu in my second verse below - were JEWISH prophets and they were speaking TO JEWS, so when they referred to "[the] nations" they obviously meant "all the OTHER nations". As I have pointed out before, christians are NOT Jews - and the Torah itself refutes any claim that they are in B'réshιt 17:14 (among other places). In honesty, this verse does not specify crosses; but it does refer to those who are נוֹשְׂאִים nos'im (which can mean both "carrying" and "wearing") and it also refers to "praying to worthless gods that cannot save". Thus it cannot be said with truthfulness to refer specifically to christians, but it certainly includes them among others. "Don't listen to their bullshιt," he warns, "they have no clue what they're talking about!" Then there is Yirm'yahu: Here, Yirm'yahu is predicting that eventually there will be people among the "other nations" who will do exactly as you have done: in Yirm'yahu 16:19, the prophet predicts that eventually all the heathen nations will realise the fulility of worshipping their worthless idols and will flock to God's Temple in Y'rushalayim from all parts of the world to make their confession to Him that what they were taught by their fathers was "nothing but falsehood - worthless, with nothing of any use in it". http://mordochai.tripod.com - פרופ' מָרְדֳּכַי בֶּן-צִיּוֹן, יְרוּשָׁלַיִם, אֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל |

You said
"Don't listen to their bullshιt," he warns, "they have no clue what they're talking about!" Basically I just need to tell them, "No thank you. I have made my decision and will not be persuaded to change." Part of me also wants to offer to them that if they want to know why I have come to these conclusions, I will be glad to expound. But that seems like an invite for them to try to "get me back". You also said: Then there is Yirm'yahu: יְיָ֞ עֻזִּ֧י וּמָֽעֻזִּ֛י וּמְנוּסִ֖י בְּי֣וֹם צָרָ֑ה אֵלֶ֗יךָ גּוֹיִ֤ם יָבֹ֨אוּ֙ מֵֽאַפְסֵי־אָ֔רֶץ וְיֹאמְר֗וּ אַךְ־שֶׁ֨קֶר֙ נָֽחֲל֣וּ אֲבוֹתֵ֔ינוּ הֶ֖בֶל וְאֵֽין־בָּ֥ם מוֹעִֽיל׃ "Adonai/God - my Strength - my Fortress - my Refuge in troubled times! All the [other] nations will come to You from the most distant parts of the Earth... they will say, 'Our fathers inherited nothing but falsehood - worthless, with nothing of any use in it'." (Yirm'yahu 16:19) Here, Yirm'yahu is predicting that eventually there will be people among the "other nations" who will do exactly as you have done: in Yirm'yahu 16:19, the prophet predicts that eventually all the heathen nations will realise the fulility of worshipping their worthless idols and will flock to God's Temple in Y'rushalayim from all parts of the world to make their confession to Him that what they were taught by their fathers was "nothing but falsehood - worthless, with nothing of any use in it". Thank you. That is really encouraging. Anything else? |

Too true. Then are you saying that their misdirected sincerity is a misnomer? If they were really sincere, then they would be able to see the plain truth. That
they would be able to overcome the poison that has sickened their minds? That it is only a fool who would take that poison from their hands when one knows what
is being offered?
"No, I found the truth and I am not going back" is really the only answer. Hand back the books they have given to me and refuse to take anything else. Thanks. I guess I already knew the answer. I just needed a confirmation that I wasn't out in left field. |
