On the 7th of the month Nebuzaraden entered and defiled the Temple. He continued to do so for the next 2 days. By the 10th, king Nebuchadnezzar had joined him and told him to burn it to the ground. Nebuzaraden lit it towards the end of the 9th day so it was mostly destroyed by fire on the 10th.

Getting back to hoshua23's point and question, where do we know this from? As I said, as simple and straightforward as could be, we know it from the authors.

Yes, the text shows limited information.

Let's remember they were Jewish authors, Jewish prophets of the Jewish people when Jews were living in our Jewish homeland. The Jewish author gave his Jewish work to the Jewish people who then included it in their Jewish tradition of Jewish works and it became part of our Jewish Torah education. And all the while these Jewish authors, themselves, were still alive to teach their Jewish audiences what these new Jewish works meant!

It is very understandable- the way we've been programmed over our years- we see and read dozens, even hundreds of books, we're totally disconnected from their authors, we take from them what we want. We see it meaning what we want. Furthermore, the author needs to give over all the information he intends to give over in the text. So we see a Jewish text and immediately disregard the author and wonder who get's to say what the text means, if anyone. I'll make sense out of it or say it makes no sense.

Our Jewish Writings are NOTHING like non-Jewish writings! [So let's not be confused!]
Our authors were our leaders and teachers!
Our PROPHETS!
Their texts are actually headlines! More like outlines, then a finishedl text.
The authors, THEMSELVES, were the first to TEACH their audience, US, what their writings meant.

So if I told you I read what I said from Rabbi David Kimchi, well where did he get it from?
And when Rabbi Kimchi says, "Our Rabbis say..." so where did they get it from?

Since he did source 'our Rabbis' than it is most likely a Talmudic refernce but that is not the source.
The source is the author.

Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, not Mrs. Smith, my social studies teacher.
