I'm presently reading Hyam Maccoby's book, The Mythmaker. It has been recommended several times here. I'm not that far into it, but I have a question about something I've read to date.
The subject is healing on the Sabbath. The GT has the Pharisees criticizing Jesus for healing on the Sabbath. Jesus then says something about being able to circumcise on the Sabbath to counter the Pharisees.
Maccoby writes that the Pharisees wrote about healing on the Sabbath and never did forbid it. Can someone point me to where I might read what they say on this subject? He doesn't give a specific reference other than saying it is in law books. I have a habit now of checking what people tell me. I'd like to check this if possible.
