Is that quote from Mr. Wilkerson? If I'm not mistaken, he has had similar "prophecies" back in the 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000's. I guess if you keep preditcting many things over and over again, eventually something will come true!

Oh, and I think he is well respected in the xtian world as a sort of prophet who hears from G-d. Just not sure which god that is!

Professor, I don't think so. This Pastor is in NY. The name of his church is called Times Square Church in NYC.

Searching: Yes, this Wilkerson fellow has been blathering end time nonsense since the 70s. Just like Hal Lindsey has. You'd think these people who shut up already, but they crave the limelight. And so every few years they have to regurgitate their nonsense just so that no one will forget who they are.

I have looked him up on the internet and have not seen anything related. He has written several English books, but to my knowledge, doesn't know Hebrew (only what he reads as interpretations or mis-interpretations).

Do you have any further information on the origins of the author of "Complete Soncino English Translation of the Babylonian Talmud "?

SMR, the Socino Talmud is a 27 volume set which was edited by R' Isidore Epstein. Someone copied it and put it on the internet in the form of PDF files. The Socino is available in 27 volumes or on CD for Windows or a CD for the Mac.

All we know about the internet copy is that the name "Wilkerson" is attached to it. No one named "Wilkerson" was involved in the editing or publishing of the Socino Talmud.

Sophie, if you read the small print, you will find that the "27-volume set" is actually a 30-volume set with three volumes (the so-called "Minor Tractates", Kiddushin and M'nahot) missing because they are out of print.

I myself have an 18-volume set that was published in 1978 to coincide with the 500^th anniversary of the Oxford University Press and more-or-less with the 500^th anniversary of the Soncino Press; in the Biographical History of these volumes (which do not include the "Minor Tractates"), a 35-volume edition (originally published between 1935 and 1948) and the 18-volume edition (first published in 1961) are listed, but there is no mention of a 30-volume edition, so it must have been published post-1978.

SMR, translating the entire Talmud would probably occupy one scholar for the whole of his life. The Soncino edition is not the work of one single author, but of many − each of the 63 massechta'ot ("Treatises" or "Tractates") was translated by a different author, under the general editorship of Rabbi Dr Isidore Epstein, who is the subject of another discussion thread on this forum.

I've never studied his "prophecies," but sure it is he's never had time, inclination, or (G-d forbid!) competence to attempt translation of any portion of Talmud.

I have posted before that I regard myself as a prophet.

A recent incident may illustrate what that term means to me. Whether or not it is prophecy, I do not know, but it meets the criteria as I understand them.

I work as assistant store manager (ASM) at a certain dollar store. Some weeks ago, my boss injured her foot on the job, and has since been on sick leave. Meanwhile, the store is in the care of another ASM (N.) and myself, under the direction of an acting store manager (J.) whom the big shots sent in.

Adapted from my diary:

J. was on schedule till 5, P. [a cashier] also till 5; R. [another cashier] was to come in at 4, but never showed up. I left him a vm at 4:23 and have had no call back. J. said no call, no show means no job, & he's fired. Would find out from N., after hours, that R. also was [MIA] on Wednesday. I have no idea why he quit.

I have to assume J. did her best to contact others by phone who might have come in to work R's hours, and that no one was available. She clocked out at 5:00. Not long after that, I began having A. [a stock clerk] bag for me, at first just to help with one order, but in the end we stayed that way till closing. IOW it was him and me as the only staff in the store. The customers were exceptionally patient.

[Aside, as to what that means. For three hours we would have only two staff present, and they immobile down front, in a store with a sales floor roughly 50 meters square, through which perhaps 200 customers would pass, in that time. Moreover, pilferage is an absolute plague for us.]

N. called me at 9:30, and we talked for ten minutes. I don't know how he'd found out this, that or the other. He, L. [the DM] had sent him to work at a different store today. He was really upset, feeling as it were guilt that he "should" have been at our store instead, available to help me in R's absence.

I exclaimed, "You were today where G-d wanted you to be today;" [N.B.: Not exactly language you'd expect in a non-religious context, eh?] that L's a good guy and very competent manager, and L. had sent him to that store, and that was that.

Indicia:

1. The utterance was spontaneous and involuntary.
2. The utterance spoke to the immediate circumstance; precognition is moot.
3. The utterance was "embodied;" that is, the speaker is accountable to the person(s) addressed.
4. The utterance concerns the conduct of the persons addressed, themselves.
5. The language is succinct, and such as the persons addressed can be reasonably expected to understand.

One finds all the same in the fairy tale of "The Emperor's New Clothes." The fairy tale aspect is that, in the story, the multitude burst out in laughter; in real life, the multitude is far more likely to burst out in rage.

I am aware of the rabbinical literature indicating that before HaShem can use anyone as a navi, that person must be, as it were, some kind of uberfrum. That makes no sense to me. Three billion live in China today; countless billions have lived over past millenia. I cannot believe HaShem has confined prophecy to only one religion, only one nation, and so left all these others bereft of direction.

This isn't prophecy It isn't even fortune telling. It is was as known as a lucky guess based on certain things you already knew.

You've been here long enough to know the Jewish definition of prophecy, and that the age of prophecy is over -- for now. Sorry, Harry, you are not a prophet. This story is not appropriate to this forum, and IMHO neither was Ephraim's original post.
