BIG question!
I'll try to keep the answer trim. But it is a big question.

Judaism is not a religion. It is a way of life. It is life itself.

Non-Jewish minds have political slots and religious slots and work slots and entertainment slots... To them, this is a religious forum. Not a political forum.
G-d fearing Jews understand that living in a country with a political machine that drives it, means knowing how to work the machine is a necessary aspect of life. It helps create our quality of life... from a "natural" perspective.

This is why G-d fearing Jews seek the advice of their leadership to know which way to vote. We trust them, with their greater breadth and depth of wisdom, to know which candidate will allow us to live a Torah life AND which candidate will lead the host country in a G-dly way of life. Because one does affect the other.

This is why your question is not a political question but a Jewish question albeit in the political arena.
Keep all this in mind because it's not just an introduction. It's half the answer.

G-d told Abraham that the nations will be blessed through him.
This means they need to bless us [be kind with us] for them to be blessed.
It ALSO means that their blessing is dependent upon us!

Same verse and two very different meanings. 1) It's their doing/fault. 2) It's our doing/fault.

G-d doesn't take a nation that is doing great and say, "Since you've been doing a great job, here's a lousy leader."
G-d WILL take a nation that is drifting away and say, "You want to forgo My standards and choose low standards? How about I have YOUR OWN ACTIONS create your own trouble and see if you come back to Me or keep on drifting."

Obama was voted in because Obama is what this country deserves. People get the leadership they deserve. And as much as I regret it, I realize I have a share in the responsibility of it having happened.

Now we can have a George Bush, a man of principle, and still suffer a 9-11 and Katrina [G-d showing He doesn't need terrorists].
And we can have an Obama and, only with G-d's help, live the next 4 years unscathed.
BUT...
According to the "natural order" of things- and G-d does do by natural order so there is always the freedom to see His hand or to blindly say 'it's just the way things go'- according to the natural order, in a time of war, when the general is taken off the front lines and he's replaced with a pacifist, your going to lose the war.

In the Torah is recorded the story of a nation who built a tower to do battle with G-d. While G-d admired their unity, the purpose of the world is to recognize G-d's hand in it. So He couldn't let their arrogance and ego create a G-dless society. Because of their unity, rather than destroy them, as with the flood, He dispersed them.

Recently was the story of a nation who built two towers- yes, the World Trade Center.
One tower represented "In God We Trust," as is written on every currency, and the other tower represented, "God is is not going to tell us how to spend our money," as is evident by how we spend it.

Regrettably, if there is one thing G-d likes LESS than rejecting Him, it's playing both sides of the fence with Him.
So the towers came down. That was a message.
And Bin Laden said it. They attacked America in their arrogance, attacking these business icons and the pentagon. Finance and security are the two major, primary aspects of our lives where we put out our chest and bang, "It's me! I did it." or we say, "Thank G-d."

G-d allowed an enemy to fly a plane into a building.
We upped airport security.

G-d allowed a man with a shoe bomb on a plane but no one, thank G-d, was killed.
Airport security now checks shoes.

G-d allowed the prevention of an enemy with liquid explosives t be discovered with no one killed. Thank G-d, again.
We now don't allow liquid on planes.

Will have no idea what will come next until after it comes. That's the reality.
Because it's not the security.

The messages are not being heard.
Even while Giuliani was trying to rebuild a destroyed Manhattan, Bloomberg was already opening a gay high school in Manhattan.
While George Bush was ending every speech with "May G-d bless America," 3000 Americans [a day!] were ending their pregnancies with abortions. [Coincidence that number that died on 9-11 is similar to the number of abortions on a daily basis?]

And in the 8 years since what is it, 5 states have legalized homosexual marriage?
Things are CLEARLY not getting better.

Remember, G-d uses a natural order. It appears the last administration did a fantastic preventing another 9-11 from happening. That is to their credit. They valued human life. They set out to save human lives. G-d allowed their methods to prevent further harm to work. And all the while the administration preceding them created an internal time-bomb situation with the sub-prime housing which just imploded. Thank G-d we have not lost lives to terrorism in 8 years but we've had awful natural disasters, which cannot be ignored, and now the housing market collapsed and ALL 270 million Americans are feeling it and will for years to come.

This financial disaster is more pervasive and being financial, it's a blessing. It's another warning as well. Which is a blessing of a different sort.

I guess we can forget the keeping the answer trim.

Israel sinned in the desert and ended up there 40 years.
Simultaneously, the SINS of the residents of Canaan were not full in their measure- to incur being thrown out of Israel- until the end of the 40 years.
What would have happened if Israel didn't sin with the calf and we showed up at Canaan's door 38 years earlier?

It doesn't matter because it didn't happen that way.
G-d works things out.
He's G-d. He can do that.

When a drive-by shooter's bullet goes astray and an innocent victim is killed, to our natural order of things they were innocent. But G-d is in charge and that loss of innocent life was not random. G-d didn't find out about it after it happened. Everyone is where they're supposed to be when they need to be there.
Same idea applies on a national level. Yes, G-d can do that too.
Which candidates rise to the top, when they do, how they do... G-d makes it all work out just the way it needs to.

Shifting gears;
To me, Clinton was a literal abomination. He turned the white house into a brothel. He was- and probably still is- a pig.
I honestly don't know if Obama is an abomination. He does support the moral definition of marriage. That's good. He does allow the murder of helpless children in the womb and even after birth, if the abortion failed. That's bad.

What frightens me the most is not what Obama is or isn't but what can easily be set in motion and can take place with someone like him in office. And really it is only when there simultaneously exists a G-dless house and congress. Woa, look at that. That does exist and is also because of the voters. Hand of G-d or just a coincidence?

America is a nation of tremendous kindness.
Simultaneously they are a nation declining in their moral value.
Our merits may be holding steady, or may even be on the rise, but our measure of sin is definitely on the rise!
It's bad enough to be tolerant of immorality but when you start legalizing it.... that's what Sodom and Gemorrah was. Not a city of sinful people. It was a city where sin was law.

That's the flaw of a democracy. With G-d IN the picture things declined. [I can't pass two 10yr olds conversing without being auditorally accosted by a wave of profanity.] When G-d gets voted out, things get ugly fast.

So hopefully you understand what Tuvia was saying. But even bigger!
Because Tuvia's application seems to have been related to Obama's policies with Israel and our enemies abroad. Tuvia might have been saying that since Obama is not "blessing us," as in allowing Israel to defend herself, then he won't be blessed. Meaning America will fall.
I disagree with that.

G-d doesn't allow leaders to randomly affect the lives of 10s of millions of people.
As stated above, people get the leadership they deserve and there are no stray bullets. The decisions leaders make will have G-d's desired affect.
Politics is the machine. But WE, the people, put the power in place that drives it.
We can build a tower FOR G-d. Or one against Him and see what happens.

Do you need to pack up and move to Israel?
I don't think so.

But is there cause for concern?
Should we pray harder?
Should we be kinder?
Should we educate others better?

Absolutely!
It's a matter of quality of life and death, if not life and death itself.

Starve a dog to death, you spend a year in jail.
Starve a woman to death over two weeks or a let a newborn infant starve to death on a table and be lauded for your cultural progressiveness.

The last liberals the world ever saw were the Egyptians who sat Joseph's brothers down and fed them meat even though they despised meat eating. Liberals, by definition, tolerate the opinions of others.
Today's faux-liberals do not tolerate any other opinion and if one exists it has to be squashed.

Hey, that is precisely the attitude of the Islamic enemy that America's faux-liberalism is inviting to our shores.

It happens to be wrong.

We are G-d's chosen people. The other nations will be judged based on their attitudes and relationships with Israel.

Look at the world, for goodness sake.

Jews are a small people, .0025% [thats one quarter of one percent!] of the worlds population. We have a small country, barely the size of New Jersey, and we're on everyone's headlines. On everyone's radar screen.
Either we're running the world or we're destroying the world.

ONLY those words, from G-d to Abraham, explain this kind of a reality.
