Why do people "translate" Shakespeare into "modern English"?

Is it because people can't read English or because some people are too lazy to make sense of it even though it IS in English?

Ever hear of

It doesn't mean that Shakespeare isn't in English any more than Koine Greek can't be understood by those who know Modern Greek.

My point was that it was a different language, not that it was totally unreadable to the knower of Modern Greek. Verb system is very different having even auxillary verbs. It is more comparable to translate Caucer to modern english.

And your assumption is wrong. Koine Greek is NOT a different language from Modern Greek. It is a natural progression as all those quotes from Wikipedia state, as the Professor told you as well.

You never did answer my question.

The Professor has studied Koine Greek.

That's like saying Anglo-saxon, middle english, and mordern english are the same language. Besides I answered your question by saying translating the middle english of Caucer (if I got that right) to modern english is the more likely difficulty level. I have studied Biblical Greek and while alot of the lettering of the verb's endings are the same; the verbs have auxillaries, and everything is reworked. There are alot of complex differences that I don't know, but make no mistake, if most of the verbs are inflected differently, then it is a different language.

The very article in Wikipedia from which you quoted disagreed with your very premise when not quoted selectively.

I suggest you go back and read what experts have had to say, including post #57 in this thread:

Sophie, haven't we seen this kind of behavior before? It appears that "weboh" has little to no facility in any dialect, ancient or modern, of the Greek language. The past statements by this poster, being peddled as if they were factual, have been shown over and over again, by comments from both a native Greek-speaker and ProfBenTziyyon who studied the Greek language and holds a master's degree in it, that they are false. This only reinforces my opinion that this poster doesn't know the Greek language beyond being able to look up articles on the Internet and perhaps consult an interlinear bible or, at best, a dictionary.

Therefore, I personally see no utility in engaging in any further discussions about the Greek language with this person.
