Soul or spirit |

It has been pointed out on these boards that there are three Hebrew words that describe the soul, or spirit of a being. The Nefesh is the life force, the
Ruach being wind, and the Neshama being breath. I've just finished reading a phenomenal book titled: "The Science of G-d" by Gerald Schroeder,
which I highly recommend. He asserts that science, including archaeology, paleontology, and cosmology are all proving religion, more specifically the Hebrew
scriptres as truth and proof of creation. (Something we've known from the beginning) In his book he speaks of only the Nefesh and the Neshama, but leaves
out Ruach completely. I was curious if anyone knew whether it was irrelevant to his point on distinguishing man from beast, or if there might be some other
reason it was ignored? Thanks for your replies...

mvguy,
You can ask him yourself at his weekly lesson on the Virtual Yeshiva:
Our raison d'être:
WHOSOEVER DESTROYS A SINGLE SOUL OF ISRAEL, SCRIPTURE IMPUTES [GUILT] TO HIM AS THOUGH HE HAD DESTROYED A COMPLETE WORLD; AND WHOSOEVER PRESERVES A SINGLE SOUL OF ISRAEL, SCRIPTURE ASCRIBES [MERIT] TO HIM AS THOUGH HE HAD PRESERVED A COMPLETE WORLD. (Babylonian Talmud, Tractate Sanhedrin, 37a) The fruits of our effort: The battle against spiritual terrorism is being won, one soul at a time!!! |

What does the Bible say about the after life? What happens to the soul or ghost of man? And do animals have souls? It seems like there is something that lives
on after death. There are many stories of people who have Near Death Experiences and they mention of an after life.

Kindly remove your signature it is VERY large and irritating to the eye.
Also review the forum rules. Your last post violated many of them: 1. Do not try to teach Judaism. If you have a question about Jewish scripture ask the question, don't tell us WHAT they say. 2. Don't tell us of your own theological POV whether it is about Jsus or ghosts. We really don't care, and it is another rule violation. 3. Likewise we don't care what "some branches of Chrstianity" believe. This is the General Judaism forum, and discussions of Chrstianity, ghosts, or any beliefs other than Judaism are inappropriate.
