"Since I'm not proposing that Jesus is any kind of savior at all..."
"We say God condescended to become a human being, inter alia to redeem us from events like this..... I say one must look straight on at what we say God did — For you. For you."

Proteus wrote: Christian mythology has this mediated by the incarnation and kenosis. We say God condescended to become a human being, inter alia to redeem us from events like this. One errs to underestimate the enormity of this condescension. We say, indeed, that God willingly took on the humiliation of entry into the world of blood and feces, sweat and tears. One who wants it to be otherwise may turn one's face away. If you want me to look straight on at the various atrocities enumerated previously on this thread, I say one must look straight on at what we say God did — for you. For you.The right question and right answer don't depend on mythological mediation.

Please be sure to be aware that the views I expressed in Reply No. 307 differ markedly from traditional Christianity. It isn't a burden as your words seem to say, but a gift.Is it not, nonetheless, a "gift" most people seek to avoid? To act completely as a free agent, not depending on intuition of "God's will" or on Jesus ... is something many if not most Christians never consider; and offhand it seems to me, this may spell a defect in traditional Christianity.Previous pages of this thread include posts in which I spilled at length about related concepts — the question of the nature of time, etc.

Matthew 65:3-"And Jesus turned to a child, and patted it gently on the head, and said, 'Be warned, all of you. In the future my followers will take over entire cities and countries. Anyone who harms a child, or a Jew, or a Gentile, in my name, shall suffer the most horrible wrath of Hashem."Or Luke 75:4 "The Jews are still my people. Whosoever harms even one hair on the head of a Jew in my name shall burn in the deepest fires of Gehenna for eternity. Yea, there shall be no mercy for him that harms anyone, Jew or Gentile, in my name, for all human life is sacred to hashem."Paul's fourteenth letter to the Ephesians, banned for 17 centuries: "Lo, the spirit of the Christ came to me in a dream today. He asked me to warn you. The spreaders of this new faith and new gospel must spare the Hebrews, and not interfere with their ways, for my new covenant is for the Gentiles only."
